March is just beginning, which means that ConExpo 2020 will be here before you know it. Are you ready to take on the largest construction show in North America?
With a footprint of 2.8 million square feet – or more than 64 acres – ConExpo is consistently one of the largest events in any industry, and this year will fill the Las Vegas Convention Center and a massive open Festival Ground space with earthmoving, hauling, lifting and other large equipment displays and myriad aggregates and construction vendors. There’s so much to see, do and get to – where do you start? Let’s explore how to plan your way to a successful ConExpo 2020.
Checking In and Getting Around
Once you arrive in Vegas, the first thing to do will be get your badge to the show. This badge provides you with access to the expo venues and also to transit between official expo hotels, the convention center and festival grounds. Fortunately, organizers have made it easy to do as soon as you land with registration areas planned at Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and the baggage claim area at McCarran International Airport. Guests at selected partner hotels can also pick up their badges at the hotel, or opt to visit the convention center directly for pickup at one of the three locations on the grounds. See the full list of pickup locations on this map, and avoid the rush by consulting ConExpo’s detailed breakdown of peak pickup times.
With your badge, you have access to shuttle buses that will run throughout the show, connecting official hotels with the convention center and festival grounds. In addition, your ConExpo badge also includes a three-day unlimited monorail pass to get around the grounds and Las Vegas. There are three monorail stops that connect to the convention center and festival grounds, making it easier than ever to quickly and easily get to everything you want to see during ConExpo.
On the Grounds
Once you’ve gotten your badge and settled into your room, it’s time to understand the layout of all the spaces for the event. The multiple expo spaces are organized largely by the types of equipment and materials offered, making it easier for you to find similar vendors and exhibitors in the same space. There’s a convenient overview map and an interactive and searchable map, both available on the ConExpo website.
This year, SANY America will be located on the new festival grounds, located off South Las Vegas Boulevard between Circus Circus Drive and West Sahara Avenue. Find us at Booth #F7826 on the northeast corner of the festival grounds and discover the 10 new product lines rolling out at ConExpo 2020.
Plan Your Days in Advance with Apps, Planner
If you’re more tech savvy, ConExpo has also made it easy for you to plan out your show and help you navigate the grounds. With the ConExpo-Con/Agg 2020 mobile app available for iOS and Android devices, visitors to the show can quickly search for specific vendor locations, browse maps, view information about daily events and educational sessions and more. Apple users can click here to download the ConExpo app from the App Store, while Android users can click here to download the app from Google Play.
Users can also get help keeping track of all the different vendor locations and events they want to see and join by using the My Show Planner tool on the ConExpo site. Creating an account is free, and allows visitors to add products or exhibitors to a list, save sessions to a calendar, get recommendations and put together a plan to navigate the different buildings and vendors across the grounds each day. Click here to visit the signup page to create an account.
Highlight Events
ConExpo is also hosting several unique events and attractions during the show. These can give attendees additional insights into some of the challenges facing the construction and aggregates industries as a whole and the technology and approaches being used to make work smarter, more sustainable and more profitable.
One such event is the Tech Experience, offering highlights on Modern Mobility, moving products and people today and into the future; Sustainability, designing buildings, cities and vehicles with an eye on the impact to the economy, environment and society; and Smart Cities, how data collection and analytics technology can be incorporated to urban infrastructures to manage resources, assets and people more efficiently. More on this can be found in Silver Lot 3 and the festival grounds areas at ConExpo.
In addition, there will be a series of Tech Talks on a variety of topics featuring industry experts and a special guest, NASCAR driver Tyler Reddick. ConExpo has also worked with the National Association of Women in Construction and Women of Asphalt to put together several events during the show, in addition to more than 20 woman-led educational sessions. Find out more about these and other highlights to see on the ConExpo site.
General Tips and Recommendations
Never been to ConExpo before? The organizers have you covered with this great video with tips and advice for first-timers.
In addition to everything else, whether you’re a first-time visitor or a tenured ConExpo veteran, here are a few tips to help you not only make the most of your trip, but also stay comfortable and relaxed while in Las Vegas.
Wear comfortable shoes
As mentioned, ConExpo offers almost 64 acres of exhibition, education and demonstration space – make sure your footwear is up to the task.
Drink up
Beyond the evening festivities and fun, it’s important to stay hydrated all day. Vegas is in the desert, which means lots of extreme dry heat and bright sun. Bring a portable water bottle to stay refreshed.
Dress accordingly
Just as important as staying hydrated is dressing for the conditions. While sun and heat should be expected, evenings will still have a chance of being on the cooler side. Pack a light jacket for the evenings and wear breathable clothes that cover your skin to prevent overheating and sunburn on the long days out in the heat.
Bring a bag
With so many vendors providing not just paperwork and sell sheets, but also swag and gear, it helps to have a backpack or other bag with you. It’s much easier than juggling documents, freebies and business cards all day.
Stock up on business cards
Speaking of business cards, make sure you have plenty of your own with you to share with others for networking or follow ups on products or services that interest you.
Rest up ahead of time
With so many things to see, do and experience, make sure you’re as well rested as possible ahead of time to keep up for the five days of ConExpo.
Be Patient
Finally, with more than 130,000 people expected to descend upon Las Vegas for the snow, plan on long lines and heavy crowds during the whole show. Take a breath and plan accordingly for a bit of a wait no matter where you go.
